What is Kinesiology?

Kinesiology is the study of human movement and the body mechanics behind that movement. A Kinesiologist is a health care practitioner who is well versed in the human body, health sciences and the application of various physical training methods to help with rehabilitation and improve overall health. They work to strengthen your body through active rehabilitation and other techniques to help reduce pain from old injuries and prevent new injuries from occurring while improving mobility.

Step 1: Your Comprehensive Initial Assessment

Are you ready to rebuild your strength and return to work safely after an ICBC accident or injury? Your recovery journey at Mountainview Health & Wellness begins with the ultimate head-to-toe physical evaluation.

During this detailed 1.5 to 2-hour session, your dedicated kinesiologist carefully measures your range of motion, flexibility, and muscle endurance. Consequently, we pinpoint the exact source of your physical limitations and run targeted tests on injured tissues. Afterward, we compile a detailed medical report for your doctor, ICBC case manager, or lawyer.

Step 2: Your Tailored Active Rehabilitation Plan

Stagnant recovery routines can slow down your progress and keep you away from work unnecessarily. Fortunately, your kinesiologist designs a dynamic treatment plan around your current fitness level and unique rehabilitation goals.

  • Active Posture Education: Learn correct lifting techniques and soft tissue care to protect your joints.

  • Targeted Stability Exercises: Practice customized core movements to build long-term stability and strength.

  • Home Exercise Support: Follow an easy, customized home routine that matches your current physical capabilities perfectly.

Consequently, you develop the muscular control needed to prevent painful re-injury down the road.

Step 3: Structured Schedules for Lasting Success

Luckily, we adjust your active training schedule to match your current work status and physical tolerance. If you require full work conditioning, you will complete sessions up to 5 times per week for 4 to 6 weeks.

Because your job demands are unique, working clients follow a lighter routine of 1-hour sessions 3 times weekly. Therefore, you can confidently build strength without overloading your body.

Accident Rehabilitation & Fitness

Kinesiologists can be an integral part of helping you reach your fitness and rehabilitation goals. They can work with your doctors, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, massage therapists and other health practitioners to deliver comprehensive services for motor vehicle accident injuries and return to work programs.

Follow-up

Once you are on a gradual return to work schedule, follow ups can be for approximately 1 hour per day, 2 to 3 times per week until you return to work full time with follow ups on an “as needed” basis. We strive to get you to work full time if possible. Problem cases are directed back to the referring doctor for appropriate follow-up work or further referrals.
